FEELING SPORTY?

Cricket

Cricket enjoys enormous status in Barbadian society and is a source of unlimited national pride and no wonder when you consider the list of all-time greats fathered by this small island – Worrell, Walcott, Weeks, Hall, Griffith, Nurse, Hunter, Garner, Marshall, Greenridge, Haynes and the greatest player of all Sir Garfield Sobers.

Cricket is played virtually throughout the year with the domestic season running from May to December and then the international matches being held between January and April. Barbados Kensington Oval was chosen as the venue for the finals of the World Cup Cricket in 2007.

Polo

Polo is a fantastic spectacle and a very exciting experience especially for the first time spectator. National and International matches are played at Holders Hill, St James, generally between September and March. Tel. 432 1802 or 421 6852.

Golf

The Barbados Golf Club situated on the South coast is the most recent addition to the list of Championship 18 hole golf courses available on the island, the other 2 being Sandy Lane and Royal Westmoreland. There is also a 9-hole course at Rockley resort. There are several tournaments held throughout the year, the biggest being the Barbados Open which is held over 3 days during the month of November.

Hike Barbados

Every Sunday morning at 6-00am and at 3.30pm – all hikes are free! Learn about the geography, history and culture of Barbados and develop an appreciation for nature and promote the protection of environment.

Horse Racing

A day out for everyone – not just the wealthy. A day at the races at the Garrison Savannah is a good days entertainment, especially for a big race like the Sandy Lane Gold cup. This is held in March, races are alternate Saturdays from January to March and May to October. Entrance is BD$10.00 in the grand stand with minimum bet of BD$2.00

Water Sports

You will find water sports available all over the island. Whether it is boogie – boarding, windsurfing or sailing it’s a perfect opportunity to give it a go. We do not recommend jet skis.
